My Embarrassing
Confession
If you recall I
said earlier that I was embarrassed, here's why. The
secret had been staring me in the face my entire life!
Talk about ironic. You see, in his earlier days my
Father was a civil engineer in England - a quantity
surveyor. He used to 'survey' land and figure out
where to build dams, roads and bridges.
As a small boy
he'd take me out to these building sites and I was
always amazed at the sheer size of the monster earth
movers, the noise, the dust, the scores of people
dressed like Bob The Builder scurrying around in their
yellow hard hats. It was every little boys dream.
It was all very cool.
What To
Do When Technology Is No Good
As time passed
he shared more of his surveyor secrets. He'd tell
me about the special equipment they'd use, the measurements
they'd take and all the tricks they'd use when technology
was no use - yes, there are times when technology
is no use.
It was during one
of these 'father son' sessions when he matter-of-factly
told me the surveyors secret which ultimately became
the foundation of Niche Surveyor. It almost escaped
me that fateful day because it was immediately buried
under a mound of more boyish and exciting ideas -

Decades passed.
I grew up and the secret of Niche Surveyor remained
lost. Back then I was working in the computer industry
developing software, and I faced a particularly tricky
